In religion and spirituality, a pilgrimage is a long journey or search of great moral significance. Sometimes, it is a journey to a sacred place or shrine of importance to a person's beliefs and faith. Members of every major religion participate in pilgrimages. A person undertaking this journey is called a pilgrim. For me the sight of large swathes of humanity expressing their faith in this manner is uplifting and demands acknowledgement and respect. In ‘Pilgrimage 4’ the backdrop of the buildings juxtaposed against the turbulent sky were areas of greatest appeal when I developed this work. It signifies the turmoil we face in the world today in balancing our spiritual well being against the pressures of modern human existence.
